Balloons date back centuries. The earliest known existence of balloon-like objects are said to be medieval court jesters inflating animal entrails and twisting them into "amusing" shapes. Yuck! Thankfully, those days are long gone. In 1824, the rubber balloon was invented by Professor Michael Farraday, and a novelty revolution was born.

By the early 20th century, balloons were available to general consumers, but it wasn't until the 1930s that companies began to experiment with novelty-type balloons (prior to that, balloons were usually cigar-shaped, many of which were intended for self-assembly.)
